Genie Swanston is excited to be a part of this important organization and looks forward to contributing wherever she is needed. Genie has been married to her husband, Buzz, for many years. They have four children and one very fun grandchild.

Her first degree was in Physical Education from UMSL. She played a key role in growing the volleyball program at her parish and gained additional experience through club coaching. In 1989, she launched a summer volleyball camp program that expanded to twelve locations, serving over 1,000 kids each summer across St. Louis.

In 2005, Genie returned to college and eventually earned her nursing degree. She retired in 2022 after working as a nurse for 11 years.

About 12 years ago, Genie and Buzz joined the St. Vincent de Paul Society at their parish, where they serve their neighbors in need within the Affton community, providing assistance with utilities and household needs for struggling families.

Genie has consistently worked to help feed the less fortunate in her community. More recently, she started a shelter cooking ministry, preparing meals three times a month for two deserving city shelters that house 100 or more people. One of these cooking days is underwritten by Lifting Up STL. She considers herself a hard worker and a team player. She is eager to help move this vital organization forward and to assist in any way she can.
